many thanks dear kind people, for all the congratulations. thank you from my boy too. you are the nicest people in the world. :)
arizona state university colors?
i think so!
the 'sunny days shawlette' pattern is from nurturing fibres. it was a comforting knit, rows of stockinette stitch, the kind you don't think about, until...the long drive home from arizona and the chevron edging and i couldn't for the life of me memorize it, at the same time, my ipad was rapidly losing power, and i wasn't sure where the car charger was (my printer is out of ink, no paper pattern!) i could have stopped knitting and taken the time to write down the directions for the last seven rows, but instead i continued in a fine frenzy ('what i wouldn't do', love her music ;) trying to finish, while trying not to look at the numbers, dropping dropping dropping, ten percent, six, three...at one percent (ha!) i finished. sometimes my friend andee calls herself a dork (she's not). but i think this may be the dorkiest thing of all.
hee hee.
i added the graduation photo to demonstrate how the shawl looks to be in arizona state university colors! completely unintentional! the main color is from curious creek fibers, called omo in the spice market colorway. a blend of silk and merino, it's SO soft. the contrast is madeline tosh in alabaster.

I can't get over how fast you create! I wish I could visit your house, it must be a treasure trove of beautiful knitted things!
ReplyDeleteit does look like ASU colors! perfect. :) i am going to have to go get me some of that yarn, and knit up a little something something for my daughter. :)
ReplyDeletelooks great :) ~ sunshiny :)
ReplyDeleteOh I love my knitting dork moments. I love your drive to get it done! Imagine patterns self destructed like the notes in Inspector Gadget. I'd definitely knit much faster than I do already. I love your shawl the colors are fantastic. I will have to keep that in mind when my boys make it to college. Picking a school by it's colors for hand knits will be a must.
ReplyDeleteLove the shawl and that lovely Arizona yarn! What a lovely white! {I'm a bit particular about my whites LOL}
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty yarn. I love this shawl pattern. Must knit. Thanks for sharing your beautiful project.
ReplyDeleteNancy
Goodness, it's so beautiful. I have this shawl queued up too, and looking for some great yarn. You always choose the most gorgeous colors.
ReplyDeleteI'm starting with Lillian Beckwith now, too, on your recommendation, and I totally agree with you--they're just right. :)
I love the story of that yarn! How great! It makes me want to dig into the local wool I have. Grown, washed, and spun in Florida! Or at least, it will be.. once I finish washing it and get around to spinng it up. (:
ReplyDeleteBeautiful yarn found in AZ. I would have never known about it without this post!
ReplyDeleteOh and that shawl, just lovely. Of course it looks beautiful on you.
So pretty! And it looks gorgeous against the gray.
ReplyDeleteReally lovely and it totally looks like ASU colors! Your son should be proud. :-)
ReplyDeleteI have to write EVERYTHING down. It's sad but it's made me so much more productive. I bought a planner and that's where all the stuff goes. Works for me!! Lovely shawl and lovely colors, intentional or not :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shawlette, luscious new yarn, and wonderful photos of a bright new beginning! : )
ReplyDeletePretty!! And speaking of which, I got my pretty new project bag and love it! I also LOVELOVELOVE the beautiful painted sandstone, it now embellishes my office (as well as that darling photo and message). Thank you Lori for these beautiful little pieces of you.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, love the colours :)
ReplyDeleteYou are funny, Lori! Shawl knitting with a ticking time bomb (i.e. dying iPad) should be training enough for any brain! Also - I love my project bag, so perfect.
ReplyDeleteOh, beautiful Lori! I love this little shawl! And it's perfect with your lovely greay dress! x Teje
ReplyDeletewhat a perfect little travel knit.....i downloaded the pattern when it was offered earlier in the month, but sort of put it aside for the next road trip!!! (lesson learned: never leave home without your knitting AND charger!!! thanks for sharing that little tidbit!!!!) (It must have also be a subliminal knit----you'll always remember this as the graduation trip shawl....very appropriate!)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!! My oldest son in law went to ASU. I may have to work up something for him.
ReplyDeleteIts so pretty Lori and yes the colours match perfectly.
ReplyDeletePretty shawl. Nice colours. Perfect match.
ReplyDeleteLovely new yarn - Enjoy.
Lovely desert colours for the shawl--and I know how proud you must have been watching your son graduate. You always have the perfect projects, XOXO
ReplyDeleteYour shawlette looks great, how wonderful that the colors are like your son's university. I was intending mine to be a gift for an 8 yr old, but now I've seen yours finished, I think that it may end up being too big.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing what you make with 'Dory's' yarn.
i've made the larger one emma, i think you'll be okay if you make the smaller size. that should be perfect.
Deleteoh, the sight of new skeins of yarn makes my fingers itch... the shawl looks so great on you and may i say i also really love the tunic you're wearing!!
ReplyDeleteThat shawl is gorgeous, I love the edging on it especially...I'm off to add that pattern to my Ravelry favourites. And I love the story behind that yarn, yarn with a story is my most favourite kind of yarn. Julie :)
ReplyDeleteI love the shawl... beautiful yarn!
ReplyDeleteyou are fast! car travel is a great way to finish up projects though. it came out beautifully! i love it. arizona state colors and all. the yarn you picked up is making me want white yarn! perhaps because i'm moving to the desert and my new favorite clothing color is white. loved these pictures of you in your new creation.
ReplyDeleteLori, there is so much to love in this post.
ReplyDeleteThe ASU colors of your shawl have a wonderful harmony, and the mix of yarns serves the style so well, too. Your pretty grey dress looks perfect with the colorful colorway. I did have a peek at the pattern, and will add it to my extremely long list of possible projects. (I am embarrassed to admit that I have yet to cast on stitches using that gorgeous yarn I won in your giveaway...still conjuring up the design for the intended hat.)
The sock yarn also looks so tempting. I will also look into author Lillian Beckwith.
Thank you for all sorts of inspiration. xo
Your shawl is so pretty! But it's the Asgard yarn that just sent shivers down my spine, whoa, but that looks like good stuff!!
ReplyDeletethat cream yarn looks so squishy and lovely, I look forward to seeing what it becomes! I love your shawl
ReplyDeleteBelated congratulations!
ReplyDeleteYour yarn and shawl look so dreamily soft - how funny about the unintentional colours!
Beautiful as always. Thanks so much for sharing it with us.
ReplyDeleteI just love your photography! And your knitting. Such a pretty shawl...
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful post Lori! The colors of your shawl are awesome ASU colors, love it :).
ReplyDeletePretty! Just love the project, Lori. Hope you and your family are well! Hello from Puerto Rico!
