i made a sweet cowl, to go with my new grey sweater from
suss design knitwear. suss cousins is an expert knitter and designer originally from sweden, now living in los angeles. oh if i can dream, how i'd love to wear all suss all the time, everything looks so soft, simple, comfy and pretty. i love the designs of carrie bostick hoge also, she's the creator of this lovely cowl. one day last week, while faithfully knitting away on my one and only project (monogamous knitting is difficult these days!), an irresistible impulse came to make something quick and simple, yet interesting. the bergen cowl! tuesday night i placed an order with quince & co., friday the wool arrived, saturday i cast on and sunday, done! so very satisfying and now a cozy warm cowl is here for our turning cool weather. thank you again carrie (one of my
favorite sweaters ever was designed by c.b.h. also).

i found a book of poetry. a beautiful treasure of a book, a first edition written in nineteen seventy two. hand bound in leather, by the author. it's hand written too, in the authors own calligraphy. the inside covers are silk screened, i keep rubbing my fingers over the raised painted page, over the hand inked words. there are one hundred numbered copies, this book is number eighty eight. thank you book fairies for leading me to this one!
and the embroidery i shared
last week, it's now a bag! i wore it out on saturday, even though it still needs some kind of closure. the bag is kind of too big, really need to pay more attention to measuring!
very happy to be joining with
ginny, hi yarn alongers!

Love it all, and your still life photos are , as always, wonderful. I've also been seized by the urge to knit some geometric colorwork but I hadn't seen this pattern.

ReplyDeleteI wonder where Richard Sterling Sawyer is now? Thank you for sharing this beautiful book
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to place the bar you are standing in.....Carpenteria? Looks so peaceful in there.
I like the idea of a cowl with just warmth for the neck and not all that hanging of long knitted strands that always are falling over my shoulders!
xx

what a beautiful book! thanks for sharing pictures of it!!!
ReplyDeleteDearest Lori,
ReplyDeleteYou have done it again! Another post which has made me feel lighthearted, happy and inspired!
I agree with you: one of the things I like the most about Quince & Co. is the simplicity with which one can purchase their yarns. It could be dangerous!
Hugs,
Stephanie
Oh my goodness, that cowl is gorgeous!! And I love your bag, beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty cowl and the embroidered bag is beautiful. You are a gorgeous model for both!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful projects once again, and lovely photos of you! I have been wanting to make that cowl for a few years now, but haven't gotten around to it.
ReplyDeleteThat bag looks the perfect size...just think of how much knitting you can carry around in it!! ;-)
A cowl that goes with another knit, you have such great ideas :) today I wore a woolen shawl and socks and they were kind of matching. I love the book, I'm always looking for vintage books and they are always better with a bit of scribble from the owner form ages past.
ReplyDeleteWonderful bag and cowl. I am so happy fall has arrived. The crisp air and I was at Rhinebeck for the fiber fest. and oh my the colors and leaves, not to mention the fiber !
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome looking cowl Lori, I love it !
ReplyDeleteLove the cowl, and the bag is amazing.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind book fairies leading you to such a treasure!
Yummy colours, egret and carrie's yellow together! What a wonderful impulse you had there.
ReplyDeleteSo creamy and of course, gorgeously teamed with the light grey.

Such beauty.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beatiful cowl! I love the geometrical pattern. You look stunning in it!
ReplyDeleteAnd big nor not - the bag is really sweet :-)
What a delightful post. I particularly like the cowl, that yellow is truly the colour of the promise of summer. Combined with the poetry it speaks of the endless pleasures of the handmade, in the making and the using. I spied a bit of solace looking right at home at your place.
ReplyDeleteThat book
ReplyDeleteThe cowl
Your photos
Your words
All beautiful
:)
Thanks Lori
That glorious cowl - it's yellow bunting blowing in the breeze. No, it's white bunting blowing in the breeze. Either way, or both ways, I LOVE it. And the handwritten book is charming. And so much love for your embroidered bag (and the dress you're wearing)! Ahh, so much lovely here to look at.
ReplyDeleteLove your cowl! The colors you chose are perfect :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Lori,
ReplyDeleteYour cowl looks so comfy! Wonderful project for the cold weather. It's fun to think about people in the past and the books that they cherished. I think the book found you, rather than you finding the book.
Wish you the best!
that cowl has been on my wish list since it was published!!!.....love it (love Carrie, too!!!)....it's perfect with the new sweater! That book! What a lucky find...the calligraphy is beautiful.
