october

hello! how are you? i hope well! all is very good here, a bit of equipment complications, so more iphone photos. thank goodness for the phone! here a few things happening lately...

owl arrived, for a new sweater

loop & leaf, our local yarn store started carrying woolfolk, i think this beautiful fiber would like to be a shawl

early one morning, a couple hours up the coast

my husband and his friend had a new adventure

i was the driver. after dropping them off, they paddled home...

everything went very well, except for one small incident a couple days later, which necessitated (me) driving again, this time on a loooong rural road, at night, in the pitch dark. i was a little unnerved, until i saw this sign  :)

(lerwick, shetland islands, photo by kathy cadigan)

in celebration of wool week, ashley yousling of Woolful invited kathy cadigan and i to her blog. if you'd like to see gorgeous shetland photos by kathy visit Woolful here.

i made a halloween costume for a friends new baby. a wee caterpillar  :)

and another diaper cover, this one for my new (grand)baby.

i made a pair of socks. these were knit with sport weight, extraordinarily soft, organic merino wool.
raverly notes here

i made another pair of socks

these with the prettiest hand dyed fingering weight wool (raverly notes)

east coast | west coast met and families become fast friends (my girl was here for a week!)

and, SO EXCITING! this arrived on saturday, The Lonely Planet Traveller magazine (november 2014), with my photo. a thrill. thank you LPTM. i love this magazine!

thank you so much, taking time to visit here. between working and travelling, and computer problems, i've been on my phone mostly (instagram). hoping to sort everything out soon and go a 'visiting around blogland! take good care friends, see you soon! xxx lori

  7. Oh that is some scrumptious yarn. I can't wait to use the Woolfolk myself. I am kicking myself for missing the "O" Wool booth at Rhinebeck. I had it on my list! But I was there for fiber and not so much for yarn. I hope you get your tech problems straightened out soon. I love seeing all your travels and pictures.

  21. Oh Lori, where to begin? I'd missed seeing your posts, and actually was going to send you an email to find out it all was well in your neck of the woods. And suddenly...I saw this post and was treated to hearing about many wonderful things that have been going on. Each of the photographs is a gem!

I will certainly be on the look out for the magazine so that I can see your fabulous photo close up.

You're a brave lady to have been driving down that dark road on your own. I can understand how that road sign might have lightened up the experience.

Your knitting is as exquisite as ever, and it was fun to click over to the interview link. Shetland does seem to be a must see destination.

Before I forget. About those clogs you are wearing with the pretty stripey socks. I remember your mentioning a particular clog maker way back when, but I don't remember the name. Aren't these the same clogs? It's a weird coincidence that a few weeks ago I was investigating a new pair of shoes and contemplating clogs. And thought of your pair. (Of course, I ended up buying a new pair of Doc Martin oxfords, but am still curious about the clogs.)

Wonderful group photo of you and Hannah and Matt and family.

Let's see, what else...oh of course, the colorful, snuggly caterpiller costume is fantastic.

Lori, I'll now conclude this very long comment. xo

    1. hee hee, your comments make my day frances. i know it's getting cooler there, i hope you are enjoying autumn and all is well with you!

thank you for all your kind words, the caterpillar is a hit with the mama, i'm glad.

the clogs are the same ones (need new shoes!) you can find them at lotta from stockholm. she is swedish but in the uk now (we had some emails so i found this out). i have a had a few pair from other brands (hasbeens) but really like lottas. you can find her here: http://www.lottafromstockholm.co.uk/

i think it's still early for the mag to be on the stands yet, Lonely Planet Traveller is from the uk as well, so we usually are a month behind (it's the november issue), but maybe since you are closer, and fancier being from nyc, hee hee. and you have new docs? you are SO cute.

the kids leave ny thurs. but i still have one son there, and i will always be back, we still need to have lunch. :)

  24. With your phone, you took all these wonderful photos? ohmygooooodness, you are a true artist.

A few weeks ago, I saw an art installation that included a hand-scrawled sign that said something like, "if there were no paint or canvases, I would be forced to draw in the dust on the floor with my tongue." :)

  25. Everything you make is just beautiful. I would like to slip a pair of those socks on right now - they look so soft and cozy. Just learning to knit and have a long way to go before I make socks. I'm still in the garter stitch scarf stage. Thank you for all the lovely photos.
