good plans

this week i knit a hat. but really, i had plans to finish my sweater.

see the sleeve, that needs some attention? this tea leaves cardigan has been on the needles for some time now, waiting patiently for it's turn. but like a good book or bottle of wine, there is no need to hurry    :)

in the beginning knitting class i teach, hats are being knit. and so, somehow, one jumped on my needles too.

one of my student - friends loaned me the new noro knitting magazine ( the premiere issue). and that's where the pattern was found. it's the checkerboard cap on page 69. it takes two different colorways of noro silk garden, and very basic colorwork technique. if you have been looking for a beginner colorwork pattern, this is one. still reading safari by tony park, so exciting!

  1. Ah, I got the magazine two Saturdays ago and I am eying the lapel wrap on page 29...I have two different colors of Noro Kureyon Sock. I don't think it will be the same yardage, well it isn't but it could be enough....I am a bit perplexed by the pattern. I think i may look a bit "puffy" in it. Maybe I should save it. This is my first Noro yarn, got with some birthday money....it has to be something special. I also very much like the crocheted slippers and generally speaking, the accessories/home items at the end of the magazine. I can't wait to see your Tealeaves finished!!!

  6. I haven't seen this magazine!!! If the hat is any indication of the other designs, it's got to be a winner! Hat is simply lovely!

  7. Your knitting is always so beautiful. I like the look of it so much and if I could take your knitting class, might actually figure out how to do it. Unfortunately, I tried twice -- with my cousin and then another cousin's wife -felt like I was all thumbs. Working the two needles in unison just didn't click with me. Crochet is so much easier. Hope you are having a great week. Tammy

  9. Dear Lori...I love your tea leaves ~ and the wool is beautiful! Would you believe I have had plans for a tea leaves for myself for nearly two years and have yet to cast on. My friend, Melanie from Our Ash Grove, and I have had plans to make this but knitting for the wee ones always comes first. Though she and I did knit the recipe shawl in the winter. But you've inspired me, and perhaps I'll cast on ~ sometime in January!
I've been thinking lots of you and sending you hugs :)

I am still knitting down the body of mine back and forth, nice, easy knitting.

Have a lovely day dear friend

  15. I love the hat too. The aqua at the top and the pink-grey at the bottom just wooed me over

I think there should be a Lori hat club. In 50 major cities and 25 countries. And the goal would be to SPOT eachother!! Then, who ever finds the first five Lori Hat Members wins a trillion dollars plus one pair of Lori Slippers

  16. Noro is one of my favorites for its magical abilities. I love how it makes your hat look so much more complicated. I have a couple balls at home that may need to be pair for this hat. I have the yarn for a Tea LEaves, but have yet to cast on. Soon, I am sure. Love the colors you choose as always.

  17. Really love the weave look to the pattern. You are a teacher...I should have guessed. You knit beautiful work. I hope to get to that point someday...where all my stitches are beautiful and I understand the knitting directions! :)

  18. Your cardigan is beautiful! I've been playing with the idea of knitting that one. Or the shalom. I can't decide. Maybe I'll be crazy and try something I haven't seen all over the place (probably not, though!). I'm terrified of colorwork. Of course, I haven't really looked into it - but it seems that I'd get horribly confused and knotted about. :/

  20. Ooooo....this would be perfect for the Chemo Hats I knit and donate! Love the fact that it's beautiful but not overwhelming in pattern; i.e. I could crank these out reasonably fast.
And laughing at the sweater with an arm still on the needles; I suddenly feel no guilt for a project sitting in the basket, almost finished, but STILL on the needles.... <:-)

    XXOO~~

  21. I love your hat. It is so fun and how exciting about a new knitting magazine. Your sweater looks so pretty. My sister made that sweater and I have seen her wear it so many times. Someday I'll have to make one for myself.

  22. Ooh Lori, I love that hat! I must confess, I've never been a fan of Noro - just always too many colours going on at once if you know what I mean? But I think you've just converted me!
