well, almost. with our temperatures hovering near freezing, needles and wool have been a constant companion. knitting away on the leaves of grass, a kal (knit along), making progress, greatly enjoying the process (there is still time to join!) when inspiration of another kind took hold. seeing a friends new mushroom pin there became a sudden
need for mushrooms here too...
the pattern for the standing mushrooms was found after a always delightful search on ravelry, i used worsted and fingering weight wool to get different sizes, a bit of stuffing is still needed to fill them out. the pin was an attempt by me...
beginning with an icord, then adding in red wool, increasing madly, decreasing and binding off. a safety pin was sewn on the back so it could be worn on a bag (this one i made over ten years ago, maybe more!)
or on a tunic
here are the books i'm reading, san miguel by t.c. boyle, (like it very much) and best of photography 2012 (a photo of mine is in it!)
the leaves of grass, while knitting it looks like a pile of grass, but oh but when the knitted on edge part begins and the shawl becomes released from the needles, pure magic...

ReplyDeleteLori,
ReplyDeleteHave you seen Nikki McClure's mushroom print 'Mother'?
I think it is one you would like; I have a copy hanging in
my kitchen and it is a favorite.
I too have a 'thing' for mushrooms, especially the red ones and
now I want to knit a pin too, that is another wonderful idea
I have gotten from you, thank you.
lori the mushrooms are wonderful. it has been cold here as well but now it is in the 40's- walking weather. i too am really enjoying leaves of grass. took me several runs at it to get into the pattern but now i'm hooked ! your's looks amazing !
ReplyDeleteMagic? Yep; there's plenty of that around these parts. I think you have magic in your fingers and in your head, Lori. That's why we keep coming back.
ReplyDeleteI have a small obssession with toadstools too.
The mushrooms are gorgeous and your blades of grass looks tricky but very lovely. Your photos on your blog are amazing so it's no surprise on has found its way into a book :)

Oh, Lori, there is only one word for those mushrooms and it is eeeeeeeeeek! I love them, simply adorable! And one funny thing, a year ago when I finished my shawl you commented on how much you liked the blouse I had made and was wearing in the photo. Well, today I'd like to tell you how much I love your beautiful blouse! Absolutely gorgeous! Funny how full circle we keep turning with each other :)
ReplyDeletexo Jules
P.S. I am sending you hugs for your heart, too.
Lori, I love mushrooms; there's something so magical about them. When we were kids, we imagined that the wood elves lives under them:-D Here in the Pacific Northwest, especially during the rainy season, they pop up all over the place. This knitted version is just fascinating and I need to get some yarn out and follow along, XOXO
ReplyDeleteVisiting you, Lori, is like a enjoying a sweet square of dark chocolate - such a treat! And your mushrooms look delicious, too. ;)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your photo being published!
Where to start - such knitted loveliness Lori. Mushrooms are so cute, and that little bag is fantastic - is it felted?
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of stitch markers on your 'leaves of grass', it looks soo complicated!

ReplyDeleteOh Lori, what a conjurer you are; They are charming and I love it on the blouse, and the purse too~ They'd be great for the tips too of a fir tree at Christmas, very lightweight and wouldn't tip the branch down!

Thanks for stopping by the World of Wiedz.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. The yarn in that shawl looks lovely.
Lori, I'm in love! I was looking at amigurumi ones to make for a baby rattles but your knitted versions are so much nicer. I'm looking at all your stitch markers on your shawl and now convinced that I would not have been ready for something like this yet :-) Can't wait to see it finished, which by the looks, won't be too long away. Have a lovely weekend! Mel xx
ReplyDeleteAll of your little mushrooms are lovely. That shawl certainly looks very complicated to me. I'm so busy at school every day that when I come home, I just want to do something simple that doesn't take a lot of thought. :) Have a fabulous Friday ! Tammy
ReplyDeleteUh! So totally cute. Love the mushrooms. My three little ladies would be over the moon to add them to their fairy play. Seems like maybe I could make those rather quickly. Nice job.
ReplyDeleteI so love red spotted toadstools (or mushrooms) whatever form they take!! I have used them to create designs for many years and never tire of their decorative possibilities. These are so adorable, Lori! I love the one pinned on your bag and blouse. Your photos are wonderful too.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a happy and peaceful weekend, and enjoy your lovely knitting.
