HOW KNITTING SAVED THE DAY

yesterday, my darling grandson had a commercial to film, his mama was working so i had the honor of taking him. soon after camera's started rolling, one of the producers shouted 'stop!' he then ran up to travis, said excuse me, and pulled off the baseball cap trav was wearing (that they had provided). he said 'this string is driving me crazy'. and he began trying to pull off stray pieces of thread from the cap. immediately realizing the folly of his action he hollered again 'i need scissors!' that prompted all four commercial makers to turn on their scissor radars and begin searching.

can you guess where this is going? i had been sitting and watching and knitting. and being really really quiet (as i'd been directed). i thought to myself, i have scissors. speak up lori! 'excuse me. i have scissors'. oh! they exclaim! grandma has scissors. rushing over (time is money!) i snip snip snip the offending threads and production continues. i suppose i could have named this post grandma saves the day too, hee hee ;)
happy spring weekend everyone!

    1. so true jo! once i was on a boat in the middle of the indian ocean with a bunch of surfers, with no first aid kit (or it was very ill equiped). my knitting 'nic nacs' came in very handily once again! LOVE that!
the best part of watching this lovely boy is his calm, cool, relaxed attitude. he likes it and is very matter of fact about it. when they ask if he is nervous, he shrugs and smiles, no :) (that would be me, could never do it!).

  13. Ha-ha! Yay for hobbies that serve a purpose. Reminds me of when we were in Oman and our friend wanted a needle for resetting our phones when he bought us new sim cards; he also wanted a few other things and I had them all in my purse. He was quite impressed! :) Wishing you a wonderful weekend. Tammy

  20. I'm a stage mom to a theatre kid. When she's in rehearsal or being filmed, my job is to stay quiet and out of the way....which I do, with great delight, while knitting. I've never had to produce a pair of scissors on the spur of the moment, however! :)

  28. What a lovely story Lori and nice that you could share your grandson's day.

It reminds me of a childhood memory. I used to take my knitting everywhere when I was a little girl. We had a boat and the family would often spend the summer holidays on the inland waterways of England...we loved slowly drifting through the countryside at four miles an hour and waking up in the morning surrounded by mist andwild life. Dad used to always question me bringing my knitting. That was until one day the shearing pin in the engine broke. We were mile from anywhere and didn't have a replacement in the tool box. I offered one of my metal needles as a replacement for the broken pin until we could reach civilisation. My knitting saved the day so my father never complained about the clicking of needles again.

  29. Let's hear it for the knitting grannies!! Also, good for using our knitting needles to dislodge little plastic animals that drop and get stuck in odd nooks and crannies....
