a little detour

hi dear friends and family,

i have something. i don't know what it is. i've been treated for malaria since symptoms were there but it continues so i kept having tests to find out what exactly was going on. the drs are reluctant to give antibiotics before identifying the disease or parasite, if that's what it is, but i'm starting them now anyway (still can't name the bug) and a probiotic (feeling a bit better, just weak) my sister was in the same boat, she's feeling much better. i do hope this works so my family can stop hovering nervously and i would like very much to stop being a host now :(

cross fingers. many many thanks.

love, lori

p.s. thank you so much for the messages and info (and phone call!) everyone, i'll show the text to my dr. but i've already done 3 days of malarone. sorry to reply to you all here, it's just easier at the moment. love you all.

  7. Also I'm sure you've been considering it. If it isn't malaria but another kind of fever. Check for tick bites, and bacterial infections.

    *hugs*

  11. Darlingest Lori - you are so brave...those horrid African lurgies can really lay you out flat. I'm so pleased that the Drs are watching carefully...and as I said in my email, it is important to keep taking those little finger pricks of blood just to make sure there is no malaria parasite. (Usually easier to detect during times when your temperature is high.)

On the other hand, it could well be tick-bite fever - the sypmtoms of shivering, dizziness and severe headache are very similar to malaria. (Heh, both Guy and I got tick-bite fever at the same time once...we were both bitten on the bum! Trouble was, we were way out in the bush in Northern Nigeria...so no doctor around. We had to drive 208 kms back to Kano! Not good to drive with a raging fever! Ugh.)

I'm thinking of you, Lori, and sending love and healing thoughts all the way across the pond. Sala Khale - go gently, we love you.... xxoo

  12. Our all dearest Lori,
there you see how much we all care and wish you the bestest - I am sure our common love and concern and all our prayers will make you whole again soon. Please rest and be sure you find a tropical medicine doctor. We have such an institute in Hamburg where H and I got vaccinated for yellow fever before we left for Zambia. As our African bloggie friends know there are innumerable causes for your symptoms possible. Aren`t they sweet to think up of all you must check?
I am with you at your bedside, making you hot tea and reading you stories, and I know all of us will take turns and think up of good stories for you, too, to make you laugh and get new energy! Just read our blogs!! Love to you from Geli, H and Paco!

  14. I just emailed you... but I wanted to leave a little comment here for when you'll return to blogging.
Rest, heal and replete dear Lori. This post was so sweet. You're generous even during a mysterious illness!

I hadn't thought of ticks, have you looked everywhere on your body? I mean EVERYWHERE, you know what I am referring to, yes? :)

My turn at your bedside is up after Geli takes a break. I have brought you freshly brewed chamomile tea and excerpts from my book for you to revise. Photos of Mr.E and Italian folk tales to be read softly while you gently snooze.

Sending you healing vibes and all my love,
    Lola xx

  16. Lori~ Eat Hot Peppers!!!
One week of 2-4 habaneros (sp?) chopped into your quac every single day and every living parasite will die in you!! Just ask a Mexican. Of course, don't forget to mega dose on the probiotics afterward.

Oh, and they do wonders for your skin/hair/nails too (side benefit)... its all the sulfur in them. Good Health to u!

  24. Lori, follow your doctor's advice and get plenty of rest. Your body is telling you it needs it. It is frustrating and confusing, but we are still fragile beings, and new bugs in our system can cause much havoc.

  25. Saddened to hear one of those nasty little varmints is causing you distress. Follow Doctor's orders and do whatever is necessary to re-gain your strength and your health. By the way, me and God are buds, so I put in a good word for ya! He said to tell ya, "No worries".

Word verification: quinkous...sounds like that bug that bit ya!

  28. Hello, my first time here but after reading about you on Lola's blog I wanted to come and extend to you my deepest sympathies. About 21 years ago I was very very ill and nobody could establish what it was and I know how low and miserable I got. (It turned out to need an operation but my point was that I know how proper illness can make one the lowest of the low)

I do hope the current treatment drives the badness out of your body.

p.s. My one trip to Santa Barbara years ago made me want to live there. We stayed in this Spanish style hotel about halfway down the main street - almost opposite a cinema. It used to be a bordello - do you know it?
