Ngiyabonga

Long, lazy, healing (thank you! for prayers, wishes, energy) summer days spent at home have me daydreaming of Africa and looking at my three thousand and something images,
here is the last (promise) of my posts, I hope you will enjoy and that the photos don't take too long to download.....

Ngiyabonga = Thank you

It's been my great pleasure to share our epic journey to Africa with all of you, Thank you for coming along, reading, commenting and enjoying. Really. I think I went over the number of posts I intended to do this in, but it was so hard to choose what to show (everything!) then I really would have had to have a separate blog. But, don't worry, not going to show everything, this is it, i'll leave with a saying I love,

Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer~
good heh?

love, lori

  1. Hey Lori, I am really back on reading my favorite blogs, I have been so busy lately.
    I am glad you stopped by, as a reminder to visit you too, so nice!
    Your blog is such a delight, the photos from your Africa adventure so beautiful, each and every one of them tells a story and I absolutely love the one with the bathtub!!!
    And YES... that is Stroopwafels... do you like them?

  4. Oh Lori these images make me so... homesick! Do you understand what I mean when I say that? Yes, of course you do, for you it's the same.

    Absolutely love the bathtub shot, it captures the spirit of your travels (and the luxury of the lodgings!) to perfection.

    Big healing hugs,
    Lola xx

  11. Oh man! I love these shots Lori - your Victoria Falls and Lake Kariba shots are so evocative. Just beautiful.
    As for that young gymnogene - I had one in the garden a few months back - I'd never seen one before and there he was perched at the top of the flowering gum, surveying the garden - I have a pic of him somewhere.

  13. Oh, just fantastic, Lori. Love, love, love. Hard to pick a favorite photo because you have so many, and such wonderful variety, but maybe it's the one from the bathtub, complete with knees. Really, you should enter that somewhere! Or maybe that really cool wave photo.

    Thanks so much. I've enjoyed your Africa photos hugely. It's much better, in my opinion, to see them on a blog and "know" the person than to read an article in a travel book.

    I hope hope you're feeling better. Thanks for your visit. xoxo

  18. Hi Lori, there's so much to see here! Your journal post on the sidebar is so fascinating...imagine being "bull charged" -only it was just for show...right!

    Great story...so of-the-moment in the telling...that combined with the photo of you on the deck with your flip flops, sitting and concentrating on your journal...it's a great writer's feeling..."Lori on Safari" -I love it. Your natural beauty just shines through.

    Then you have the overwhelmingly powerful sky...wow...did you take those sunset pictures with a special camera? The sun appears so white-hot liquid! If that's your husband with the croc-lying on the ground- I think you married an Indiana Jones! (and a handsome fellow, too.)

    About the food...I see that so much effort was made to prepare an appealing meal...are you vegetarian? I ask because this is the type of situation I get into...a location of cultural faux pas..."Oh, I'm sorry I can't eat that..." and hurt awkward feelings all around. (I try to forewarn people...but it doesn't always or usually work.)

    Finally, that bath out of doors...I love to bath outside-I'm thinking of setting up something here for privacy. How relaxing to be able to really soak after a tiring day. Tremendous experience, Lori.

    Thank you for sharing. And for the record, I'm not tired of the African Safari. I want you to know that I have watched "Out of Africa" more than __ number of times...which remains blank because I continue to watch it.

    I like the atmosphere. Also, I have read, and reread Isak Dinesen (pseudonym of Karen Blixen) autobiographical notebooks- "Shadows in the Grass" and "Out of Africa". (And some harsh criticism...but I take it for what it is...a woman of that times experience.)

    I think your journals should be published either as they are or in some edited form. Your impressions are how women feel/experience now...and that makes it so fascinating.

    Sending love and healing energy to you, Lori. <3

    thanks bhavana,

    me too,the language is really music to my ears. would love to learn it.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    dear ribbon,
    that's incredibly kind of you to say. i used to make books when i was a child, writing stories and drawing the characters. i wish i'd kept them. maybe someday i'll try my hand again. thank you always for the positive words.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    nicky,

    ha! how did you know that rainbow was at the falls?! and a gymnogene in your backyard?? good grief!! we almost fell out of the boat when we saw him. really great.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    thank you dear mina,
    yes, your right about those children, they are full of light and life, and smiles. so glad the sun reached you!
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    dear sallymandy,

    oh i see the bathtub was an all around favorite, we all know how wonderful it is to take the time for ourselves. it's funny though, on safari there are not that many moments of relaxation, so i had to put that one in! thank you very much for the always kind words ☺
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    dear helen,
    thank you much. not yet, but i can picture it! soon...
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    dear mandy,

    haha, i almost left the bathtub out! but it was truly an hour of lovely, peaceful bliss. except for the hippos snorting right down the embankment! awesome.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    lorac,
    oh, i hope you can someday, i wish everyone could have the chance!
    the hippos are actually coming up out of the water to graze. they are extraordinarly nimble. and that is a young baboon that seemed to pose for us. yes, incredibly cute.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    dear renee,

    if it took you outside of the mind numbing place you and your family are in right now, i am thankful. if there were something i could do. i can pray i know. and i do. i love you too.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    thank you everyone, i know that was a lot of photos, i am sorry, what was that i learned about editing??! but thanks just the same for all the lovely comments. I appreciate each and every one of you.
  21. oh Cynthia!
    we just crossed paths! thank you for the lovely comment, you must have been reading about the paddle we did? such an extraordinary experiance! and oh, my cameras, one digital and one film are not special for anything specific, i had a filter on for that picture.
    yes, that's my husband. he talked the boat driver into letting him dangle off the front of the boat while we crept up to the croc, can you creep in a boat? well, anyway we scooted up slowly and chuck got the photos he wanted!
    i am not vegetarian, i'll eat anything. pretty much. it would be hard to travel the way we do and be picky. besides my curiosity would get the better of me and i'd have to try it all. one night we drew the line at ostrich steaks though (not too good tasting) and ordered just the veggies instead!
    i am going to make a post about out of africa, there is too much to say here.
    But i did want to say thank you so much for the very kind words about the journals, it means so much to me that they have given pleasure.
  25. Without a doubt, you were able to capture photos that touched almost every human emotion possible. The entire collection has been an absolute treasure to linger over. Leaving to our imagination the sounds and aromas that were surrounding you at the time. You are the lucky one that can put the pieces together like a puzzle years from now, when you flip thru the pages of the book you are going to put together. If only so the rest of us can brag that we knew you, in a small way, once upon a time....on an African Safari. Thank you so much for sharing your treasures with us Lori Ann.
  29. Oh my, Lori, I am away from the internet for a few days, and then I find your incredible post and already 28 comments which I could all have written!! PLEASE DON`T STOP posting your 3000 photos, I want to see them all. And next time please write your sweet comments underneath again! AND PLEASE DO PUBLISH THAT BOOK. I know I sound like screaming, but that`s my temperament. I MEAN it. Or can you publish an online book, and add Janet`s lion`s roar to Val`s lion (guest pictures could be added, hey?)? I mean, if someone would pay you for it (we?) this could become an e-book we could all return to when we feel bored or low. Hey, is someone reading this? How about it?
    And now I`ll write you a mail! Love from Geli
  39. I've just revisited your beautiful pics (my virtual escape from my daily grind at the office) and I read your comment about ostrich steaks.
    I disagree with you 100%. Ostrich is way tastier and healthier for you than beef!
    I love it. Will do a blog post about it especially for you!!!
  41. Wow a bathtub with a view! Of course I love the pic with the shadows on the land across the water, and all the images of you with your beautiful streaming blong hair.
    personally I have loved every post about Africa. I think you should write whatever you feel like writing. Censorship here in the blog world is not necessary.
    Also love reading about your life in California, of course.
    Hope you are seriously on the mend, Lori!
  42. Janet,
    oh, that is something i'm looking forward to, maybe you will tell us some of the yummy ways you like to prepare it(or have it prepared). i've tried it a couple times and it was not my favourite food! I didn't know it was a healthy choice, that is good to know! ☺
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    thank you eternally distracted,

    i am too, the sunsets and sunrises, your right, there are both, it's such a magical time of day, that must be why were drawn to them!

    Reya,

    there is nothing quite like an outdoor bath in a clawfoot tub with hippos bathing also just metres away.
    thank you for your kind comment regarding blogging, i just know myself and since i love varity i think others must too. but i am really glad you've enjoyed africa.
    going to the t.c.m. doc today. fingers crossed.

    Thanks for visiting my blog. Of course it prompted me to visit yours .. and I am so glad I did! What a delight! I especially loved reading your Africa posts as I am planning a volunteer trip to Kenya with Free the Children next summer with my 17 yr old daughter (who I call Doodles - and she hates it). I will be a frequent visitor -- to enjoy your breathtaking photos and clever prose. I think we starting blogging around the same time -- Aug 08. Enjoy your week.
