stormy weather

when it rains and pours all week in a small california coastal town, what do you do when there's a break in the deluge? you walk to the beach and say hello & goodbye to the setting sun. see you again soon sun okay? but not quite yet, there's another front moving in...

thank you for the mails of concern, we're not so bad, we're not in danger of mudslides or flooding. there's many that are though. i'm praying for all the people in the evacuation areas. and haiti. our flooding and storming seems awfully small when we see the devastation and suffering of this caribbean island and it's people. like so many, i'm praying for haiti.

how can nature be so deadly, dangerous and beautiful all at the same time?
be safe where ever you are.

puppy update:

after spending a little time with little n, we began to rethink his name. seems he's better at charming than thinking deep thoughts. we are deciding on something else, something the children can actually spell and pronounce. (and since hannah's realized puppy parenting takes more than just a little time) i am now officially the mum.
what do you think of owen? owen elias graham. there's a beautiful place we love, owen's valley, between the sierra nevadas and the desert. and elias is for this man here, someone we always want to remember. he seems to like it. owen it is then.
even though i can't help calling him fluffy pluffy poopie pants.

oooh, puppy love. it's a sure cure for rainy day blues :)

  1. Owen it is then! He is gorgeous whatever his name is.♥

Haven't been aware of your weather????????

Haiti is foremost in my prayers, along with prayers that we (humans) all realise that we are all connected, and when one hurts, we all hurt.I have been sending love out everyday, and hoping it gets to where it needs to go. As always, plenty comes your way, my sweetie friend.xx♥

  5. Breathtaking photos Lori. You really took advantage of the "break" ... and I have to say I am more than a little jealous of the surroundings in which you live. My dream is one day to sleep (some of my nights) to the sound of the waves hitting the surf. Is there any better lullaby?? I am relieved that you are safe and sound. Enjoy little Owen (FPPP)!
    Hugs ...

  6. I'm so glad you've been ok with all this rain you've been having!

I think Owen is a perfect name for your puppy!! Although I am sure you'll have plenty of love names for him like I do for Winslow...

    Love, Silke

  7. I think you will find that you call him many different things. I named Beaux, short for Beauregard, but call him BoBo, Bocephus & Beaux Baby.

  10. Owen is a great name! We are receiving a light snowfall now ... part of the front CA and the coast are receiving. I prefer light snow. Take care and enjoy your weekend. My son returns to MN tomorrow ~ I will miss him.

  11. Hi Lori, we saw some of the CA rainfalls and mudslides on TV, scary! Stay safe and warm and comfy! Shall I send you a tiny little chewing bone for Owie?

  12. It is good to know that ya'll are safe. You're right; there are so many who need so much right now.

The wonderful thing about puppy love is that it never fades, even when the puppy is no longer a puppy. Our fuzzy love is 5, and we still call him our puppy.

  19. I am so out of the world here in northern Sweden that I had no idea you were in such dire weather straights! Hope all is well.

I think Owen suits the little pooper just fine, and I'm sure the kids will have an easier time calling his name.

I love the beach photos. Those sunsets are unbelievable.

  20. Hi Lori, thank you so much for your kind words, it's wonderful to meet you!
I was born and raised in a tiny coastal town in Northern California called Bolinas, maybe you've heard of it? This world is so huge, and so small at the same time.
Owen is adorable; enjoy those puppy months, they go by so fast. My husband and I were just remembering Kiki's time as a puppy, with clumsy paws and needle teeth, the sweetest ball of love ever. Now she is still a ball of love, and the most precious little being; but she will never be a puppy again.
It's woderful to have found one another Lori, I'm sure we'll have a great time visiting one another's little bright corners of the web.

I love walking through the sand after its been raining... mmm... I miss that.

The Dog Of Many Names is adorable. My dog answers to lots of names, Tigs, Tiger Hooligan, Tiger, Puppyface, Babyful, Ugly Dog, to name but a few.

  22. Yes, Nature really is fascinating. It can be so beautiful and also tragically overwhelming. Nature has that powerful combination of fear and wonder.

  23. Owen does fit a tiny bit better (not as big of shoes to fill!) and is an adorable name.

As usual, I love your photos - they always make me smile.

Yes, the devastation in Haiti is very chilling.Nature is so unpredictable and can be deadly as well as very beautiful.
Ian (DH) has gone today to Samoa to help build houses for the people who lost so much in September. He will be driving a digger over there.I guess it is going to be quite a lifechanging experience !

  30. Gosh many reminders of how vunerable we can be against the forces of nature. The problems in Haiti must surely make us all realise how lucky we are whenever warm and safe.

I adore your little puppy! He is so cute!!

You are going to laugh. Guess who now is wearing my slippers because they are light and feel good on her feet. Jacquie. She has confiscated them.

So you gave pleasure to the both of us.
