this is rebekka, she is from iceland. not really the shawl, but the icelandic lace weight wool. while dreamily looking around helene magnusson's site, the icelandic knitter, i found this shawl as a kit available for purchase. the wool is handdyed with wild icelandic plants by the dyers at ullarsellid in hvanneyrri in the west of iceland. i read that the plants used are foliaceous lichen, leaves from mantle's lady and roots of snarrotapuntur, a very green tussock grass. and there is a lovely smell, the smell of iceland. it is made in all garter stitch with an elegant top down construction, and a minimalistic floral lace motif. the designer planned the color changes to happen in the eyelet rows which makes this shawl fully reversible. helene offers beautiful patterns, wool and kits and also, hiking ~ knitting tours (i know!) nature and wool and hiking and travel, someday, oh someday i would love to do this! ravelry notes here
