i am a little late in sharing this cowl, a sample i made for carrie bostick hoge back in december. dessau cowl is a fair isle cowl in quince & co.'s lark (peacock & belize). i love this pattern (and wool), it was so much fun to knit, and infinitely wearable.

i don't know if i was more excited to have the opportunity to knit this for carrie, or that my daughter would be one of her models for this collection. yes! this is my girl! i know i shared before, but now my girl is wearing what i knit in the photos, extra extra exciting!  hannah rose met up with carrie in brooklyn, where hannah lives, for the photo shoot.

i've been reading reading reading, all about the shetland islands. for a trip i'll be taking there in a few short months! dear knitters, or anyone interested in travel, history, wildlife, birds and of course wool! it has come to my attention that a spot has opened up on this grand adventure to the shetland islands with gudrun and mary jane! there is room for one on the trip for summer and room for four on a second trip that has been added to include wool week in october. to tempt you further, here are photos from a movie i've been watching filmed entirely on location in shetland. called 'the edge of the world'. if you think you might be interested in coming along (yay!) please contact gudrun here.

joining with dear ginny

  6. Lori, that girl of yours is such a beautiful model for a lovely selection of knitted styles.

Thank you for the info about possible openings for the Shetlands travel. I did send off an email tonight. Let's see what happens.

As you well know from Hannah, we are still awaiting a believable Spring arrival here in NYC.

  7. Ohhhhh so beautiful Lori! you've inspired me to knit that cardigan at the bottom. Your daughter is perfect for modelling knits :) p.s. i've decided to start my own knitwear design business and just launched a kickstarter to help me along at the beginning if you happen to know anyone who might like to support this kind of thing and receive a handknit in return :) https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1545832485/knitstarter
    much love - C

  8. She is so, so beautiful, and so obviously your daughter! I wonder, is she as excited about the idea of modeling handknits as I would be? It's so much cooler than a regular modeling or acting gig :).
The cowl you made is lovely and in my favorite colors. I can't get over the contrasting cuffs on that last cardigan.

  9. Oh Lori! These pictures are amazing, right? I've seen the same backdrop in Carrie's most recent pattern photos and I was telling myself how well the colours and that LIGHT worked with the yarn colourways she chose. They remind me of Flemish Renaissance paintings of interiors. Absolutely, YES!

Your daughter is so beautiful. The light on her face in the last picture? My favourite. As soon as cast off the gift shawl I am knitting currently I am all set to knit Live for my little Angélique in duck egg blue!

And the Bergen cowl you showcased so well here a few months back inspired me to knit one of my own; in pink and cream. I haven' put it up on Ravelry yet though. Lazy me ;-)

Oh, how I wish I could come - it sounds fabulous! I've been reading a bit of Lilian Beckwith lately, and long to go back to Scotland. It's a fabulous place.

... and I also wish I'd bought some Quince & Co yarn when in London. In the end I settled for Madelintosh, but now I don't understand why I didn't buy more yarn?
