low tide

there was rain! it fell all through the day and night, it came with wind and fell in sheets. power was lost at my work on friday, forcing an early closure. thank you for your messages of concern, we are not near any of the mudslides (scary). here at the coast we received about five inches and the back country almost ten! hopefully there will be more march and april showers! today the sun came out (kind of) and the waves came up. chuck surfed and i tidepooled. the rest of the weekend was spent unraveling a sweater i made almost two years ago, and have not worn. now i have a new pile of wool! have a great week ahead, xxxxxxxx lori

  2. Wow Lori, as usual, incredible photos! Nature is astounding!
AS for the sweater you unravelled, it is the sweater which first alerted me to your presence on ravelry and well, the reason I found you blog! I'm glad you will be using that beautiful yarn for something else. Any ideas? Well water is one of my favourite blues ever!

  3. What beautiful treasures low tide reveals.
Do you soak/stretch your unravelled yarn before re-using it? Enjoy your 'new' wool - look forward to seeing what you make with it.

  4. Oh, I can't decide which photo I love the best; number 5? number 6? 3? 4? - they are all fantastic! And they make me long to be by the sea... I need to take a day off, I think! :-)

The sweater was really nice, but since I gather it was too big, I can understand why you unravelled it. It's too beautiful a yarn not to use.

  5. So glad that you are safe and sound Lori. What amazing photos, so clear. I especially love number 6...it's like a mini underwater tree. I love exploring tide pools, you never know what treasure you will find next.
It's a good feeling when you finally decide to unravel something that's not quite right and make something new. I made a shift of focus cardigan that was much too big...it was a bad yarn choice for the pattern. I remade it into an annabel pullover that I finished recently. I'm so glad that I did. I'm living in it at the moment. I love the pullover as much as the cardigan. Love the yarn colour...I can't wait to see what you make.
I hope your wished for april showers fall.

  7. unraveling is not fun at all, unless you know you do not wear it and you have in mind an awesome sweater to knit again. Lovely beach photos, you are lucky to live and see such beauty.

  8. walking the beach in winter is one of my favorite things---something i hardly ever have the opportunity to do. such great finds. what a winter....glad you are all safe with all your rain and flooding; we're under a couple of inches of ice right at the moment with snow coming down like crazy. amazingly still have power.

  9. Lori, what a relief for you all to have some rain at last. Surely the weather pattern is changing again and your area will be receiving some actually spring showers...just not all at once.

I recognized the beautiful yarn straightaway! Lovely to look at and also wonderful to knit with. Can you believe that I still have not quite finished my Follow Your Arrow project. So close now.

Our latest snow forecast turned out to overstate what actually occurred. No shoveling required this morning.

  10. I so remember those torrential downpours when we lived in California; our rain may be turning to ice later, which is a serious problem with power lines. Your photos tell a story without words and that's what I find so remarkable about your "eye" for composition. I also admire you for unwinding a sweater you never wore...I usually give my projects away when I haven't worn them:-D XOXO

  15. Thank you for sharing. Your pictures always make me happy. ANd you inspired me to rip a sweater out too. I never wear it and it's beautiful yarn. Maybe that's what I'll do during this snow day! :)

  17. what beautiful photographs. When I clicked to leave a comment, up came the Apache Blessing ... it confused me at first because I'm so used to seeing it as my signature on my emails ... and then I realized, Oh yea, of course others may be using it too. Anyway, lovely photos you take.

  18. Gorgeous photos as always. Glad the much needed rains arrived. Mud slides and land slides are scary. We witnessed them firsthand in Nepal. Take care and have a great week. Tammy

  19. Hello dear Lori...how I've missed you! And then I had a moment for a visit and felt such awe with the beauty of your photos. Those waves crashing beyond the stones...yes! And the tree-like fan of sea weed (what do you call that?) reminds me so much of the print I made with Huckley's placenta. I mean, exactly the same details ~ amazing. But Lori, what leaps out at me is your Madeline Tosh well water. I just purchased the very same!!! I remember your sweater that you made (which I loved) and you felt it was not quite right. And now you have more yarn! I wonder what you shall knit with it ~ keep me posted. I don't dare suggest a knit along with you because my speed of knitting is literally years behind yours, but inspiration is always found by what comes off your needles...and from you, of course!
    Much love and light,
    xo Jules

  24. Tidepools teeming with life! I was looking at all the nooks and crannies on the rock the gull is on. I can only imagine the micro-stirrings going on there.

So lovely, all of this. And so very glad rain is falling.

    Missing you...and blogging.

  31. Lori somehow I missed this, I was probably in the rain my self, being deluged by a rougue wave, yes I just barley turned away to look at an oncoming elephant seal at SSimeon and boom, I was almost knocked over and thoroughly wet to the knees and I was in the parking lot! Home to hot tea and a change and not one rock was added that day to my collection. But I made up for it a couple days later! Took my husband and sister and found the Mr. has a talent for finding sea glass!xx Love your pics

the black ones with white lines
on a shore in Greece, so long ago....
and that yarn the perfect color
    thanks for this!
