early morning walks and runs before the holiday crowds arrive for the day...
it's long days at work out on the islands (top photo, in the distance) for my husband, i stand on this shore and wave across the miles... hello, i miss you...
or it's watching him here, driving the tractor on the beach as part of his lifeguard duties (must take a more recent photo)
it's watching my grands too at their first year as junior lifeguards, it really was just yesterday when my children were j.g.'s ....sigh...
summer here is bridal roses, given to me by my daughter this morning, from a wedding she
catered last night.
it's a parade,
a strawberry lemonade stand (with sunkissed granddaughter as proprietor)
and first tomatoes ripening on the vine, yep indeed, summer is here.
the temperature here is a mild 72 degrees, with a cool breeze blowing onshore, which i am hoping will continue to blow across the entire united states, bringing some relief from the heat wave affecting most of the country. i hope it reaches you! or wouldn't you like to come here? we'll save some lemonade for you :)
and...

I'm jumping up and down in excitement!!! My boys loved looking at your pictures from Africa (and of course so did I). They asked me over and over "Mommy when did you take pictures of giraffes?" I told them I didn't Lori did. They still thought I did. They asked to see the pictures of the zebras and lions so many times. I am so thrilled to have a little piece of your amazing adventure! I can't stop smiling :) xo Andee
ReplyDeleteps- I was a jr lifeguard champion at beach flags one of my proudest accomplishments :) I forgot to mention how amazing your pictures were in this post.
ReplyDeleteyour west coast beach really has a much different look than our east coast ones, but a beach is a beach....is a beach, and I'm so missing it! I'd love the link....I made my kids minibooks of our vacation from your My Publisher link....it was very fun; I'll do it again. Would love to see yours. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a wonderful surprise! Thank you soooooo much for this. I can't wait to receive my copy. Wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteThank you dear Lori for sharing these beautiful blog posts with us.
ReplyDeleteI always love to visit here and see your beautiful travel photos and your lovely home and surrounds.
Have a wonderful week dear friend.

Linda
lovely happy summer! now if some of that sunshine could just blow over the ocean to warm us up a little...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photographs and lovely words, I'm so happy to have read your blog whilst enjoying my pot of tea. I am very excited today as I head over to New York on Wednesday and looking forward to the heat, Sydney is very cold at present.
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures as always. Summer has the same temperatures here, I love it.
ReplyDeleteSummer....so different and yet the same from one coast to the next. I must say that I am very envious of your temperatures as the ones here in ths sout are just brutal! How sweet that your grandbabies are now junior lifeguards now just like your babies, it went fast didn't it? And a lemonade stand, how wonderful, I would love to purchase a glass..or two.
ReplyDeleteI am so excited to use My Publisher and am putting together a book for the wee one of our week together. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for introducing me to this simply wonderful site. I think it will make a smashing going away gift for both of us. :)
Beautiful golden summer pictures, Lori....making up for the chilly rainy day we are having in my little bit of the UK today! I loved reading about the lemonade stand and seeing your sweet granddaughter too.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a happy summery week.

Your granddaughter is so precious with her stand. My Aine loves her hair flowers as well. Interesting how the ribbon of the ocean connects so many in your family. Love the change of the guard there. Thinking of planning a trip to California after we leave DC. Just thinking right now.
ReplyDeleteOh Lori, I would love to be there with you on that beach!
ReplyDelete72 sounds like heaven. Today it is to cool down to 90 here, a relief after 95-100.
Happy Summer.
xoxo
Just gorgeous - I had been thinking about you and your trip - how neat to have made a book about it.
ReplyDeleteGosh there is nothing like summertime in California- I used to live in Coronado as a teen and there was something magical about the summers. Love the images of your hubby on the tractor- and the water images so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHappy Summer!
xo
I really love your bright cheerful photos! Summer has arrived here with full gusto. It is hot and humid! Lucky for us we have AC and a pool, can't beat that :)
ReplyDeleteHow I wish our summer was resembling yours! Still grey and chances of rain, but with hopes that after the 4th (that's what is said) we'll get our summer weather.
ReplyDeleteThe photos are just gorgeous, especially your precious granddaughter. I envy you that they're close. Mine arrive in 18 days and I can't wait! Happy Summer, dear friend. XOXO
so interesting the difference in what summer is depending on where you live. we have been knee deep in summer for months now. in fact we are moving from "dry" summer to "wet" summer right now. still oven like hot, but now muggy as well. lol
ReplyDeleteenjoy your summer!
yes, yes, please send those breezes! crazy to think that your highs are cooler than our night time lows right now. i clearly need to move.
ReplyDeletesave me some lemonade I'm on my way! I'd just love to be on one of those beaches. Here in the alps all our horizons are very close and jagged. I was brought up by the sea and miss gazing ou into distant horizons.
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely how being a lifeguard is being passed down through your family, you all must be the most incredible swimmers!
You are blessed to live where you do and you photograph it so incredibly beautifully. Lori, your summer post has totally cheered a miserably wet UK summer's day :D
ReplyDeletesummer is so beautiful where you are! i am coming back next week! you around? love these pics lori... maybe i'll stop by the shop. xo
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, it all looks so very inviting. I would love to stop by for some lemonade and the cool breezes :)
ReplyDeleteDear Lori, where have I been?! and lost so many your latest posts! I adore your amazing photos and I love those knitted- wow - stones you have made!

Lori - your summertime captures make me wish I was seaside! Love the contrast to our leafy, green, woodsy Canadian summer.
ReplyDeleteHello Dear Lori
ReplyDeleteI have no doubt your Namibian holiday took your breath away~
Just doing a brief glance I see such fantastic photography. You are loving your Summer and for the last couple of days here, I have thought it was Summer here too. Its been lovely and warm...
Lovely to see you back
Lots of love

Lori, I knew there was a reason I've been wanting to go swimming every day, even tho the water is much colder up here; its been weeks of lovely sunny weather. I even had to buy sunscreen for working in the garden!
ReplyDeletehappy days ahead
xx

Your granddaughter is so beautiful and lovely. I love the glow in her face and flower in her hair.
ReplyDeleteThe photo of the single rock on the beach with the wave is gorgeous, Lori.
Beautiful granddaughter! Love the flower in her hair...she looks like the essence of summer. Thank you for the idea of the small photo book...a great gift for anyone and a nice way to send a "thank you" card.
ReplyDeleteThings are so parched here, so to visit your beautiful space is so refreshing. You've made me want to become a life guard if only so that I too might have the job of driving the tractor (and rake?) along the beach. THAT is my kind of job!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, as always.
Such gorgeous shots and such a gorgeous summer. It sounds perfect! Your grand is so grand and pretty!
ReplyDeletexo
Beautiful captures as always Lori... Winter has finally arrived here, though pretty mild so far. Enjoy your summer days xx
ReplyDeleteSummer sure is beautiful in your corner of the world. We just returned from a week in Sri Lanka where it was warm but wonderful. Obviously there were dust storms in Kuwait while we were away. My balconies are covered in a layer of the stuff and some of my plants did not survive the heat. Still it's good to be back "home". I love how your knitted rocks turned out. I collected rocks along our walks while in Kandalama and would crochet covers for them in the afternoon while enjoying a Lion Lager. :) Have a beautiful week. Tammy
