to finish, to give
i finished my mitts! so happy with these little hand warmers, they are cozy and very warm. if you'd like to knit them i hope you will give the pattern a try. you can find it here. i was thinking of making a video demonstrating a couple techniques i learned that make fair isle easier. i wonder if there would be an interest?
if you don't knit (or even if you do) i'd like to have a giveaway of this pair of winter white fingerless gloves (showing one front, one back here) . i was thinking as i was knitting them, that so many of you make for others, knitting or crafting, giving of yourselves in so many ways. perhaps you've never had a thing hand knit especially for you. theres also all the kindness you give, so abundantly, all the time here. which means the world to me, so it would be my pleasure to offer these. if you'd like them , they are made of the softest merino wool and cashmere (one size should fit most, the 4 x 1 rib gives a good stretch) please leave a comment letting me know. but if you can't wait and would like to make a pair now, you can find the pattern here. comments will be open till next sunday, january twenty second, when i'll announce the winner!
and the knitting doll photo? it's the thing i've been up to lately, more to come on tuesday! i hope you have a
very good week ahead, with moments of magic and true joy. xxx lori

I know number 1 never wins, but I would love a chance to win the gloves, they are beautiful Lori.
ReplyDeleteYes, please make a video on fair isle knitting, I need help!
I am very curious about this knitting doll you have pictured and can't wait to hear all about it as I think I have a wee one who would love it!
I hope you are having a great time this weekend!
I would also love the opportunity to win these...they would be perfect for me, I can never stand to have me fingertips covered, thank you for the sweet thought!
ReplyDeleteLove your pretty new mitts! I've only tried colorwork once (a hat ala E Z) which turned out okay, but I don't love the process. I'd love to see a tutorial of techniques to make it easier.
ReplyDeleteLove your pretty Fetchings too - so classic and lovely! That was the first fingerless gloves pattern I ever made - great little pattern!
Blessings,
G
Your finished gloves are gorgeous. I am planning to knit a few pairs of colorwork gloves this year. I have only done colorwork in non-wearable pieces (stockings). I think this pair is perfect with the design and the picot edge. Great work
ReplyDeleteLori, what a beautiful space this is. I love the way you display your wares and heirlooms and your choice of colours.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win a pair of fingerless mittens knitted by you. Giveaway gifts bring bloggers closer together physically. There are soft and strong at the same time.

Beautiful as usual. I've always wanted to knit fair isle but am way too intimidated!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Lori! I so wish I could knit as well as you do. I love comng here to see what treats there are in store xxx
ReplyDeleteThose mitts are beautiful, and yes as you know I've lost mine, it'll be more than chance to win yours :) For thefair isle techniques, I'll be very interested in, I was looking for tutorials just last week, and I don't find a lot of interesting stuff.. Let me know if you make a video! :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, thanks for coming to my blog, I've discovered yours and will come back for sure!
Merino wool and cashmere...that sounds heavenly. What a nice January treat those mitts would be. How thoughtful of you to offer such a lovely, handmade giveaway.
ReplyDeleteYou have such a generous spirit!! I love your fair isle mitts and the photo with the coffee--superb!!!
ReplyDeleteYour mitts turned out so lovely!!! and a video would be so kind, especially for someone who hasn't used more than one color in a project before (moi). And what a treat!!! It would be amazing to win a pair of mitts you knitted Lori, thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteI just bought that exact knitting doll kit for a friend's daughter this weekend :). Thinking about going back to get one for my own girl.
xo
I have been meaning to attempt color work, so I would love to see a demonstration of what you learned! The gloves are beautiful--how kind of you to give them away.
ReplyDeleteThe mitts are beautiful. What a sweet giveaway...I would love them! Also, I am anxious to know more about the knitting doll. AND I love the rock lady, snowman like!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I know "willfulmina" the previous commenter, in real life!
Hi Lori
ReplyDeleteHow beautifully your mitts turned out! I have never tried fair isle but would like to. And I would love to add my name to your giveaway ♥ Thank you.
I love seeing photos of your "knitting nook" filled with the sweetest little objects. It looks like a happy spot!
I would love the chance to win these lovely mitts. Put my name and I'll keep my fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful knits, Lori! I was just thinking the same thing (after hear my Mom talk about all she knitted for others last year) that knitters rarely knit for themselves, and are truly blessed if someone knits for them!
ReplyDeleteYou are such a sweetheart.
Have a wonderful week!
My little girl has been given two of these knitting dolls recently (hurrah, one for me and one for her!), in exactly the same charming little vintage-styled box.
ReplyDeleteNaturally, I'd simply adore to take part in your give away, those gloves look stunning, you're so clever.
Those are simply lovely! Since I have won something from you in the past, I think you should leave my name out of the Magic Hat. They look like they would keep your hands toasty warm. :) xoxo!!
ReplyDeleteHI Lori,
ReplyDeleteI love your mitts!
I wish I knew how to knit....
Thank you for this wonderful give away.
: )
I will never ever never ever ever know a knitter more talented than you.
ReplyDeleteNever never ever ever.
Please count me in. I have several motives. One would be just to grin thinking of you when I put these on. How you do all these stitches and delicate patterns: there are elders looking down on you Lori, so proud.
Never.
Ever.
Plus
You rock
Xoxoxo
These mitts are so beautiful Lori, you are so talented and such an inspiration.
ReplyDeleteLove to you
Linda
Oh my oh my oh my oh my! Your gloves came out beautifully. JUST like the photo in the book. I love the color combo and the sweet pink edges. I would so love to see an instructional video with your tips!!!! Anything to help me out of just making squares and rectangles, hehehehehe.
ReplyDeleteAw, Lori, YOU are very giving and generous. These white gloves are gorgeous!
Hi Lori! Your fingerless are so beautiful as your photos, too! I have been busy and missed many posts. Your painting is really wonderful! And the painted stone - just fantastic!
ReplyDeleteMy hands are so often cold that I would love to warm them with those bueaties! Thank you for a great give away!
x Teje
PS. Welcome to mine, too!
You are so very generous. I have Fetching on my to-do list! They look so scrummy. Can I say yes, I am interested in your video tutorial!!!
ReplyDeleteBoth sets of mitts are beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteA fair isle tips video would be most welcomed, I'm doing my first fair isle ever at the moment, and it would be great to find out some hints!
I'm with KJ! Yes put me in and wow!
ReplyDeleteI think you should be a famous knitter/photographer. Really.
Yup.
Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThoughtful.
You.
Smiling.
Hopeful.
Me.
Well Lori, seeing as I don't knit very well, the tutorial wouldn't be at all the thing for me! But..... to own these snowy gloves would be most exciting!!
ReplyDeleteAnd as usual, your photo's are inspiring!! xx
Hi Lori, count me in too for the mitts- it's pretty cold here in the alps right now! I'd love to see a video on fair isle knitting tips, I tried making some thumb-less baby mitts once, they looked fine from the outside but inside was a big mess of 'yarn/colour changes'.
ReplyDeleteThose mitts are gorgeous! I'm definitely going to give these patterns a try (need more hours in a day, though!). Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI would love these mitts! Count me in. Sweet of you to have a give away. xoxo
ReplyDeletethey are so lovely.....
ReplyDeletethat 3rd photo is FANTASTIC...I really, really like it!!!
merino wool....super cute style..hand made with love and beautiful colors...who wouldn't want them:)))
You rock! Barefoot Mama
I adore your fair isle mitts--and are those fetching??? love them as well!!! and a collection of knitty spools! what fun!!!
ReplyDeletewould love to see how you do fair isle; I struggle with it and rely heavily on blocking to make things pretty! so many techniques out there--knit on the inside; knit on the outside; one handed--two handed. I think i've tried them all. :(
Such beauty - beautiful knitting x two but also such beautiful giving. When I found your blog recently, what I loved most was the aura that comes off it. You really are inspiring as a person. And yes I would love those gloves to wear in chilly England :) Have a lovely week.
ReplyDeleteOh wow what a perfect time to be visiting your blog for the first time.
ReplyDeleteI though I already pleased my eyes enough with just looking at these photos - but to have a chance at winning a pair - such a dream ;)
They're really beautifully knit and I can just feel the luxury ;)
xo
hi lori! Happy New Year to you and your family. The mitts are beautiful and so sweet. Especially love the little pink detail around the cuffs. The sunset is spectacular. Congratulations on your photo being published! I'm catching up on my reading and posting. Hope to be sending you some yarns in the future - we're on our way! XOXO Susan
ReplyDeletesuch pretty mitts! someone is going to be very lucky indeed ;-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely giveaway, not just the mitts but also the kind thought behind giving them to someone else. I'd love to be entered, thank you Lori :)
ReplyDeleteI've been making knitted i-cord as well (and blogging about it) ... I wonder what you've been getting up to with yours ...
Oh, love them! Thanks for the chance to win one of your beautiful creations!
ReplyDeletei would love love love a chance!!
ReplyDeleteOhhh there beautiful Lori and you are so generous!!
ReplyDeleteone ticket please.....
My bare hands have crossed fingers.
xoxo
Both sets of mitts are lovely and for different reasons: one is so detailed and the other revels in simplicity. I already have that Fetching pattern bookmarked! Lori, those top photographs are stunning. What are your settings for them? They have such a short depth of field that the sharpness and blurriness line tends to smudge and play tricks on my eyes. Really stunning technique! (both for photography and knitting)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see more of the dolls! How fun.
Oh and p.s.- yes to the video, please! (sorry, don't count me twice btw)
ReplyDeleteI'd love, love, love to be the winner of your beautiful mitts. I knitted several pairs for gifts at Christmas, but none so wonderful as yours.
ReplyDeleteDiane in North Carolina
just the most stunning photos, giving such a great feeling of texture and o. those. colors.

As always, I love your energy, kindness, and the thoughtfulness that radiates through your blog. I've missed your posts, and I'm glad to be back :)
ReplyDeleteYour mitts are adorable, and I hope you had some lovely holidays.
Oh they are lovely! I would definitely be interested in a video - I need tips (and bolstering).
ReplyDeleteOh! i have a great idea!
ReplyDeletethere can be two winners if each persons gets only one mitt.
what? why? not the point?
oh.
heehee
♥
Dear Lori,
ReplyDeleteWhat a joy it is to come visit your blog again!! You have been busy! I love those fingerless gloves and might have to knit a par of the cabled ones. I have some yarn that might be perfect for them...
And the knitting dolls - I was just thinking that I need to find one of those - there is a project I will need one for. I'll have to look online...
I hope you are doing well, dear Lori!! Hugs, Silke
P.S. I've just been reading back in your blog - the way you live your life so fully and so creatively is such an inspiration to me!! :)
ReplyDeleteHi, Lori! I love your blog and look forward to your Yarn Along posts each week. I think a video on fair isle techniques would be very helpful and would love some tips since it's something that I have never tried. I would also love to win your sweet giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI bought a couple Knitting Nancys for my daughters' Christmas stocking this year. The lady that makes them is in Oakland, and I thought you might like to take a look at her shop. She seems to be on a break right now, but you can see her sold items. Her Nancys are wonderful! http://www.etsy.com/shop/afoolforspool
Oh these are amazing beautiful. I love how you display them too wow!
ReplyDeleteoh goodness, i missed this post !@ these are gorgeous lori, i'd just love to hold something knitted by your hands. x
ReplyDeleteSoooo pretty! Both of them. It's true, I never make anything for myself. If I don't win those, perhaps I'll just have to knit myself up a pair. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Lori,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful giveaway gift...so perfect for this winter, it is mighty cold in Maine. I would treasure them if I happened to be chosen.
They are so beautiful!
How beautiful. I would be very pleased to win something as gorgeous as these. You are very generous.
ReplyDeleteMy sister just told me about you and your blog. I'm hooked! Lovely everything!!! I would love the chance to win these mitts.
ReplyDeleteI think the gloves are lovely! Thank you for the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous hand mittens, I'll be adding those to my to-knit-list! Very happy I found this blog, I'll definitely be checking out this space regularly!
ReplyDeleteThey're beautiful! They remind me of the book the mitten. 'Nikki wanted mittens as white as snow....'
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful little garland!
ReplyDeleteI love your mittens and the winning chance, too. Please, put me in.
The photo with your grandchild in the post above is amazing - it must be wonderful to live there.
enim sou (enimenim.wordpress.com)
great metts, great blog! i´m still not very good in knitting, but at least trying to knit a simple pullover for my son.
ReplyDeletei´d like to knit some metts for me and hope it will succeed sometime.
sorry for my bad english - school´s a long time ago...
greetings from vienna (austria)
I sew more than I knit. Yes to a fairisle knitting video. Anything that makes it easier is welcome.
ReplyDeleteSheer joy are your mittens, the fair isle ones, and the elegant cream ones, which I would be very proud to own if that was to be, as not only are they made by you Lori, with love, they are just so beautiful. I think it would be really really wonderful if you made a video about your tips for fair isle knitting, every bit of knowledge gained about fair isle is very welcome to me, plus, I would love to hear your voice Lori! Yes, please make the film, it would be wonderful! I've just come from your marvellous post about the Knitting Nancy, and please, please, please enter me for your giveaway for one of those! Though I do live in the UK so it might be a bit too much expense to send it here if I won one. I always say, nothing ventured, nothing gained, nothing to lose by trying! Love Vanessa xxx
ReplyDeleteHow kind of you, I have never knitted (or crochetted, my main craft as knitting nees a LOT more practice!) anything for myself and it is on my list to do this year...although not doing too well yet as my list for others seems to be growing! I think I need to encourage my family and friends to start knitting :) Hand warmers are one thign I could def do with investing in as my little pinkys do get very cold, thanks for the pattern links x
ReplyDeleteThe fingerless gloves are lovely, and if I don't win I will definitely be making some. I have that very knitting dolly in that great vintage box, which is a feature in it's own right!
ReplyDeletePenny x
I love your fingerless mitts, both pairs are beautiful. I think a video about the fair isle knitting would be excellent, just be sure to link it from your site so I can find it!
ReplyDeleteSign me up for the giveaway, they are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh dear, Lori, I hope I'm not too late - it's already Sunday night here in Australia but I'm sure it must be still earlier over your way! I've been organising my daughters BlessingWay and almost forgot that I really wanted to own your very clever handiwork;o)
ReplyDeleteIf I am late thats fine too!! x x x
I hope I'm in time!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous gloves!!
Oh, how beautiful. Thank you for the chance.
ReplyDeleteI'm in. Thank you, and I have just discovered your blog. Love it!
