west coast crush

thank you very much for kind words on a first attempt video tutorial, i will try for more, but it would be so much easier if you came over instead.    :)
our day was super fun, chuck surfed for hours (third pic down), and i watched and took photos for a little while. but when the tide started going out, the sea anemones and sea glass began vying for my attention. with temperatures hovering near eighty degrees i got a little sunburned, woops! happy weekend!

  3. Heavenly pictures Lori. I can taste the salt on my lips. We lived for eight years on the Normandy coast in a fishing village so being surrounded by the sea became almost second nature to me. My husband is from Brittany so it's first nature for him.

  4. Lovely waving fingers in those pics. Greeny and ghostly - love them.

hey, my bro was paddleboarding up near Hearst...and saw a 2 foot FIN near him. He made "i'm not a seal" noises and paddled to shore. YIKES!!!

  5. Dearest Lori,
it looks like you had the best Friday, even with getting a little sunburnt. I have a little dish that I keep my collection of sea glass in too, they are so much fun to look for.
Your video was very informative and I do hope you make many more.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge, it has really helped me in my knitting as I use all the tips you have given. My favorite? Writing the pattern out on index cards!
I hope you have a beautiful weekend.

  9. I've never been to a beach with anemones and sea glass. Everyone raves about Florida beaches.. but.. they seem so boring compared to the amazing photos I see of other places.

  11. Love, love, love the photos of the tide pools with sea anemones. One of my favorite activities is beach combing, the glass you found is something I would consider a treasure. Have a great day.

  18. you are the best photographer in north america. and europe. plus south america. australia. asia. africa. where else? those other continents too :^)

you have your camera back, don't you? i want to tell you i have one favorite photo, maybe two. i was going to say it is the one of chuck surfing, and the one of the blue sea glass. but then i have to add bird on rocks and wave arising and magical tentacles. i cannot be asked to make exclusionary choices. it is not possible

oh how this post has lifted me from a mean virus and transported me beachside.

why thank you very much, loritimesfive.

    love

  20. What a day! You know what they say about a family that surfs together: That's one awesome family! I've never seen anemone in its natural habitat before. I only get to see them in a large glass aquarium. That is so cool, and the photos are fabulous. And horses! Horses on your beach! Doubly cool! You know, I've lived here half my life, and I did not know that there are coves with tidal pools not too far from here. I need to go check them out soon.

    Have a super Sunday!

  21. sounds and looks fabulous. If i could pick up and move anywhere then it has always been the west coast since we drove from san fran to LA. Your photos are only helping to strengthen that!

  22. Once again--stunning pictures! I love the beach--and beach combing is one of my favorite pasttimes, but seaglass seems to be a real rarity on the east coast. I haven't found a good piece in years. Great find!!!
    And those anemones!!! gorgeous!

  23. Lori, thank you for your lovely comment- I popped over to say hello and a loooonnnngggg time later I surfaced from reading back through your archives of loveliness!! FANTASTIC photos- we have damp, cold weather here: oh for the sun and sea! Blessings from the other side of the world xo

  24. That first photograph is particularly wonderful Lori, with the wave looking so green, emerald green, and the bodies sliding down it. I tell my Niece Millie that sea glass is mermaid's tears, which leads to lots of pertinent questions. Your babies are a little big to be taken in by the mermaid's tears fib! Still, I like to think, big or small, mermaid's tears are all part of the magic and mystery of the sea along with sea anemones and shells. Love Vanessa xxx

  26. stunning, stunning, and gorgeous. Did I say stunning? What a beautiful weekend you had, and horsebackriding on the beach is a dream of mine....Your surfing photos are amazing. Can I ask you what camera and lens you use? (still shopping in my mind for a dslr :)
And you can bet that if I am ever in your neighborhood, I will give a call for a cup of tea and a knitting lesson :).

    1. dear mj, i'd love that, colorado is only one more hop west (a short plane ride) and your here! i hope you and your family do make it out. our friend organizes the horseback rides, we would definetly hook you up.
the camera i used for these pics is a canon 60d. the surf photos are taken with a canon 300mm IS (fixed) lens, the sea anenomes are taken with a 105mm 1.28 macro and the dish with a new favorite super fun lens, a canon 50mm 0.45m fixed lens. my most versatile, most in use lens, is a canon 20-35mm 1:3.5-4.5 (it's the one i'd take if i could only bring one). and did you know you can rent camera bodies and lenses to try them out before buying? :)
