influenced

not yet one hundred percent sure about this pattern (it's me really, making errors, my own fault!), but it's safe to say my knitting has been influenced by a recent trip to alaska, the design hasn't quite begun (there is an animal in it), i'm looking forward to that. using a lovely soft merino and fine kid mohair blend from beaverslide dry goods, i hope this turns out the way i'm imagining.

another influence is colin meloy and carson ellis. i love everything they do, their music, illustrations, telling tales. their new book, under wildwood was on my porch when i arrived home from work today. this knitting requires every bit of attention, what to do tonight? knit or read? both i think  :)

you may like to enter the giveaway i'm having here (if you haven't already) it's open till october 21st, after we return from an upcoming trip! joining with ginny.

  3. Hello Lori

So nice to see your post pop up while I was busy with mine. Your trip to Alaska..wow beautiful. I haven't knitted for ages..I have so much natural brown wool that I feel a inspired. I brought some gorgeous malabrigo Rusta yarn. Have you ever seen their range? Its gorgeous and the colors are heavenly. My mom is crocheting a blanket with it for me. Thought that a blanket would be more of an heirloom than a cardigan. I have a couple of lovely cardigan patterns lined up for next Winter.

    Have a great day

  9. The book arrived, what a treat, thanks! I love the color work, can't wait to see what that turns into. I cannot believe I have not heard of the Wildwood series, we loved the other stories that were illustrated by her, do not know him at all. We will have to give this a try, if I can tear Melva away from Elizabeth Zimmerman :).

  10. Hi Lori! I love knittings with pictures! You have beautiful natural colours and I could imagine some reindeers running there! I used to make pullovers with figures and animals but why now I make only easier knittings? x Teje

  11. It's amazing how our creativity is inspired by our travels. Your knitting is lovely...it will be amazingly soft...the yarn must be lovely to work with. I remember my husband had a pair of gloves in similar colours when I first met him...I think they were Bolivian.

Thanks for introducing me to melloy and ellis again...I remember reading about them on your blog a little while ago. I'll follow them now so that I can keep up to date with their lovely work and hopefully it will inspire me to start drawing again.

Have a safe trip and an amazing holiday.

  13. Lori, I bet that your fabulous Alaska trip will provide all sorts of inspiration...to your knitting and beyond!

Thank you so much for generously posting all the additional Alaska photographs in the previous post. Young bears and their mama, little squirrel, little flowers, vast vistas, Mt. Mckinley!!! The colors, the scale of it all, are so very impressive.

  15. So is this a pattern in your head? I am enjoying it so far and the yarn is lovely. I haven't read that book yet but have seen it out and about on yarn along. Good luck with your pattern invention, I hope it is exactly as it is in your head :)

  16. Wildwood has been on my reading list forever, and now they've come out with a second book... I will definitely have to put MY knitting down at some point and plunge into some reading.

    :)

I LOVE the look of your knit so far. Can't wait to see more.

  17. So amazing to me how you can get such intricate patterns from needles and yarn. I've seen it done with crochet, too, but carrying different colored yarns seems rather tricky to me. Wishing you a wonderful day. Tammy

  23. I'm #1 on the reserve list for this book at the library and can't wait!!! But, I, too, am with a couple projects that need my full attention.....I just love when I can do both at the same time. I'll be torn. (Happy dilemma!!!!) The color and pattern on your project is quite lovely---looking forward to seeing what it grows into!

  27. You know, Colin Meloy and Carson Ellis were here in Boulder last week promoting their newest--I had no idea and I can't tell you how frustrated that I missed it!!!!! I loved the first, and can't wait to crack open the second! So what did you end up picking? knitting or reading? Always a tough choice :).
