'would you like to go for a paddle?' we jumped at the chance to join craig's kayak mendocino sea cave nature tour. and so exciting, my husband chuck offered to paddle a double kayak for us so i could take photos! we met at the west parking lot of van damme state park, located three miles south of the town of mendocino california on highway 1.
after an introductory/safety talk by craig, owner and operator of kayak mendocino, we took off for the first cave of the morning, paddling through a green room, a perfect way to begin! along the way craig described what we were seeing in the ocean and along the shore. there was the otherworldly looking bull kelp, aurelia aurita : moon jellyfish, several types of seabirds and a blowhole. the weather and ocean cooperated so we were able to enter several sea caves. this turned out to be one of my favorite places to paddle. protected within an outer reef, kayaking at van damme state park was a fantastic experience. it helped also that we were all blessed with an incredibly gorgeous day. if you go contact craig at kayak mendocino here. (that was a little one you saw in the green kayak, it was dylan, craig's three year old son, already being groomed to guide) :)

Oh that looks like so much fun. With the jellies and kelp I'd say a kayak is the best way to explore those waters. Absolutely stunning pictures. I love the second picture.
