saturday the hat was being knit
sunday morning, completed, he put it on
today, tuesday, it's still on his head.
i love knitting for my husband. :)
pattern: not a pattern really, i did this: cast on 90 stitches with worsted weight wool,
knit one inch of rib, then knit for approximately six inches before beginning to decrease, knit
eight, knit two together, repeat around, knit every other row and continue decreasing (7, 6, 5...)
until knit one knit 2 tog, then knit 2 together. pull through last stitches, done!
wool: trabajos del peru, 100% extra fine hand dyed merino wool by plymouth yarn
i told him his head looked a bit like a mendocino sunrise, hazy shades of pink and blue.
i'm reading arcadia by lauren groff, i feel about this book the way my husband does his hat. although i've just started it, i like it very much.
joining with ginny and the yarnalongers this lovely wednesday.
i love the yarn chuck chose. it's true what they say about real men wearing pink. ;) did you stop at muir woods on the way back? did you know m and i used to live on the way to muir woods off highway 1. it was a magical time.
ReplyDeletethe last photo is muir woods! LOVE it there, we stayed overnight at stinson beach on the way back, love it there too!
DeleteWhat a lovely post! Concise but full of happy things :-)
ReplyDeleteThat is when knitting is so much fun, when the effort is appreciated and loved, Love that! Cap looks fantastic by the way.

My Dad put a hat on his head (Navy pea hat) when he got up and didn't take it off until he went to bed. As a runner, I know you lose heat through the top of your head, but he didn't run and wore it inside too!
ReplyDeleteLucky hubby that can pick out the yarn one day and have a hat a day later. The colors remind me of the heather in Scotland; rosey in the morn and periwinkle blue in the eve, XOXO
Lovely Lori! Its me, I am still there ;-) always have been not very far. But today feels different, more strength, more everything! I love your husbands hat and even more the way he loves to wear his darlings knittings, you are the sweetes couple I have ever "met", seriously! Your relationship inspires!
ReplyDeleteHug, Gesche
So fun! Have been wanting to do some knitting, but knitting and a curious one-year-old = tricky business :-) I love that tree photo!
ReplyDeleteWhat! no pattern, started saturday and finished it sunday - the same week right? amazing!
ReplyDeleteChuck looks great in his sunrise hat!
I'd say he is most definitely knit worthy!!!! love the way the yarn pooled so consistently, too. (I lived in western New York during the 70s!!! not quite the commune-type, but daughter says i'm always slightly off-bubble; must queue up that read!)
ReplyDeleteloved her other book and the collection of stories...can't wait to dig into arcadia!
ReplyDeleteand yes! love husbands that appreciate the hand knits :)
I haven't made a hat yet that my DH likes, so I'll try this one and see how it goes!
ReplyDeleteI love the hat and I love that he loves the hat :) My husband acts like that with homemade socks!! You are such a speedy knitter.
ReplyDeleteThat is a fantastic hat! You and Chuck make my heart go awwwwwwwwwwww. :) xo
ReplyDeleteSuch a simple pattern, but the yarn makes it look very special. Great colors!
ReplyDeleteGlorious in every way xx
ReplyDeleteGreat looking hat and you fast. Thanks for the pattern.
ReplyDeletehappy husband, happy wife : do you ask for more??? ;oD

I have a hubby that loves hand knits, it is totally awesome. Love the hat!
ReplyDeleteYou just never take a break! I am so inspired by you. Our kitten (who is now officially 1 year old) got into my yarn stash while we were gone last week and now it's a huge tangle. ♥ I just blogged about a yarn shop we visited in Ottawa, Canada...
ReplyDeleteI just love your pictures. And I bet Chuck can wear any hat and make it look manly :)
ReplyDeleteGREAT! Good mates are the MOST appreciative.
ReplyDeleteLove Mendocino. Love your artistic productivity.
Met and had dinner with kj and Janet and had a BALL! Laughed so much and felt like we'd known them for years. Jeff adored them too.
We're on our way to do television in Columbus, Ohio, then onward to Cincinnati, Kentucky, North Carolina...............
Love,
S
oh be still my heart! thank you, sharon. likewise and ditto. it was a grand time xoxo
DeleteWhat great photos. Yarn shops make me sooo happy! The hat looks great. I wonder if my husband would wear one I made...I be he would. =)
ReplyDeleteHow gorgeous. I really like the wool he choose. My man let me knit him a hat for the first time this year and he loves it too, thought he didn't go so far as to actually step inside a wool shop. I've got some work to do before that's going to happen!
ReplyDeleteOh I enjoy that, just like my love who is so happy with whatever I knit. After he received the second pair of socks he decided never to buy any socks again. A pair knit too short? He just doesn't care. Not to be nice, he really doesen't. Just about hats he told me not to knit him anymore, he keeps loosing them. But I won't stop because I love him.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
I love this post on so many levels - that hat is lovely and the yarn made such a neat pattern on it - almost looks like a more complicated stitch! And it sounds like you are a fast knitter...you got this done in no time!
ReplyDeleteLori, aren't patterns that really aren't patterns fun to knit! Great to see how the yarn begins to sort of tell a story. Your husband's brand new hat definitely carries a sunrise.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes. xo
Love the yarn, thank you for the instructions, I will like to try it, but what needle size you used?, thanks for visit me at my blog.
ReplyDeleteit was so nice to find you through yarn along! i used a size 8 circular until needing to switch to double points, for this wool. i hope this helps!
DeletePretty yarn. I've never seen them wind it up like that. Very cool. Thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday for yarn along.
ReplyDeleteHi Lori, gosh, it seems I haven't been over here in a couple of weeks. I've missed so much. Time just gets away from me lately. Happy Anniversary! Ours is Saturday -- 18 years. Time really does fly. Your trip to Mendocino looks amazing with the kayak trip and the cottage stay and yarn shop. :) Always lovely to see the magnificence of Mother Nature in the beautiful old trees of CA and glaciers of Alaska. Wishing you a wonderful day. Tammy
ReplyDeletehello ms sf. i'm behind in my visits here i think for the first time ever. that MUST mean life is busy because it is common knowledge i would never miss your adventures without good reason :^) xoxo

The BEST is when they are involved in the knitting process.
ReplyDeleteI love it so much when my husband chooses the wool and discusses the pattern with me.
His hat is great.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Just catching up here Lori. If I've not been by in a little while then to come visit with you in this space always feels as if I've dropped in on an old friend.
ReplyDeleteI'm married to a man who likes (I'm typing this in a whisper) fleece hats. Such a disappointment!
I am with Annie, catching up. I just love all the places in Mendocino. It has not made me realize, this beautiful place need to be a vacation getaway for me!
ReplyDeleteThat hat is fantastic. It is always the best to knit for those who appreciate and love it.
