oh poo

we'd been looking forward to seeing U2 for months. i LOVE having something to look forward to. and U2! i really am sorry bono is in pain and needed surgery just the other day. and i really really hope he feels better soon. because that is most important. but i won't lie and say i wasn't disappointed to find out only 9 days before the concert that it's been cancelled. i spent much of yesterday undoing our train tickets, hotel reservations, time off work... they should be back on track come august, for the rest of the european tour anyway, but we found out we'll have to keep waiting here in the u.s. , till next year! bugger. oh well, i do have a birthday to look forward to tomorrow, and that means cake!

    amanda,
that's the email we got. they book stadiums for the tour and in the fall football starts here so they can't get in. however, the tickets are ours to keep and i'm relieved for that since we got the field and just a few rows from the stage.
yep, it's may 31! thank you!

  8. Happy birthday (tomorrow) Lori! I'm sorry you can't have bono and eat your cake, too. I was able to go to the U2 concert in Dublin last July with my best friend who flew over especially. I won't spoil the fun, but let me just say....SPECTACULAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My best friend also has tickets for U2 in Minneapolis, which she can't use this year either. She was bringing her niece for her 16th birthday, but will have to find something else to do. Hopefully, we can use them next year for our BIG Birthday. So sorry for the niece, but happy for me :) Bono, get a lot of rest and get better soon!

  9. My niece's boyfriend is coming to the US to meet the family. M has lined up a month of travel throughout the US (including the Grand Canyon, Vegas, & San Franciso. A little but important trip was to Chicago, including grand tickets to see U2. She too is bummed. Funny~ Chin Up & Carry On is one of my favorite sayings as well. This is exactly what I told here!
ps..I have a Nephew that's birthday is tomorrow as well.

  15. Hi Lori,
Wishing you a very happy birthday today!

Here's a quote I like by Emily Dickinson:
"We turn not older with years, but newer everyday."

Hope your birthday celebration can override some of the disappointment of the cancellation of the u2 concert.

    Enjoy!

  16. Lori it's been your birthday here all day today, seems appropriate that you should have two being a Gemini ... I married a Gemini, they are the nicest people after us Leo's ;)

  19. Happy Birthday Dear Lori! May your special day be as bright and beautiful as you!

Sorry about U2....but a year will pass quickly. I met Bono many years ago.... (a long story involving red roses and the poetry of Yeats).. we stayed friends (only friends -) for a while and he is truly as nice as people say.

A birthday hug winding it's way South to you!

    Love,

    ♥ Robin ♥

  22. oh poo! that's disappointing although like you I understand how surgery can get in the way of a concert.

but...i think you should still have a little mini concert at your house. get some good food, some wine and a couple U2 CDs and go crazy! :)

  23. How disappointing Lori. Hope you can get to see them in August ... not fun cancelling everything. :(

But you have a birthday to look forward to tomorrow. How exciting! I think you have crammed alot of living in this year ... a year well-lived. Hope your day is as sweet as you are.

  31. Too bad, Lori! I know it is a good idea to have something great to look forward too- and that you will find a great activity to replace the U2 concert- and soon. It's your birthday!! Have a lovely day! xx

  32. Dear Lori,

I hope another band comes swanning in to take the edge off. It is a drag when they have to do these things, but perhaps next year?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oooooh whoooo
I found a little South African replacement for you in the meanwhile

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDdD_Pgnviw

A band from Cape Town in sunny SA - well worth a listen xxxx

  34. Tsup! is an onomatopoeia for a kiss. It is the sound you make when you pucker your lips and instead of blowing you suck in the air. They used it a lot in comic books when I was growing up and we introduced it in the blogs at Bird Anonymous' three years ago here:

so whatdoyouthink about robin knowing bono? a friend, she said. that is obviously code for not a friend with benefits! but still. i'm kind of impressed.
